As cliche as it sounds , I have to drop the infamous “everything happens for a reason” bomb right now...You see, what’s funny is I would actually be completely lying to you if I said, “I have forever & always dreamed of being the VPIII / Recruitment chair for Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Arkansas!” I’m not sure about you, but the thought of getting the opportunity to serve as a leader to 400+ of the most beautiful, dedicated, and unique group of women is just a tad overwhelming…
But here I am, right now, at this very moment and all I can think about is in exactly 11 days we, as an a whole chapter, will embark on something we refer to as, “Work Week”. Yep - a whole entire week of doing absolutely nothing but preparing for two weeks from today when we have 1,703 PNMS (potential new members) being so beyond vulnerable and walking into our chapter, our house, and our sisterhood. Their main mission - to choose where they will leave their mark and where they will call home for the next four, most inspiring, emotional, and rewarding years of their life.
At this point you are all probably thinking, “Oh my this girl needs to chill she is so obsessed with her srat!!!” Which I cannot deny (lol) but that isn't the point of writing this blog at all - actually. The point is to allow you to step into my shoes for the 5 minutes that you are allowing me to consume in your thoughts, to show you a glimpse of the women that I have had the privilege to get to know these past 3 years of my college experience. Some of the same women who have taught me more than I can express, and also some who are old and irrelevant at this point (kidding) but are the reason I am the person I am today and the reason I am standing in these way too big of shoes to fill leadership position right now (you know who you are).
As you can probably already tell, I could go on and on forever. Let's just I'm pretty passionate about the good humans I have in my life. But to avoid boring you all. I've decided to introduce you to my 5 devoted, courageous, and determined women that make up my girl gang...
First, Madeline Caldwell...The only human who can procrastinate as much as I can, who can suffer from insomnia as much as I can, who can understand the language I speak (I normally don't understand myself), and hands down the most devoted, inspirational 21-year-old I have ever had the privilege to call one of my best friends. I like to think of Madeline and myself as nothing less than a power couple...she's constantly pushing me to think outside of the box and allowing me to unfold all my crazy (most of the time very unlogical) visions and goals onto her. Yet despite the adversity, we always make it happen.
Second, Maddie Wipfler...literally has a heart of gold and I am not kidding when I say this. There isn't a moment where she isn't being so beyond selfless and putting every single human in her eyesight in front of herself. Maddie’s leadership style is pro-active, mindful, & influential to all. Maddie is another individual who I get to call one of my best friends and actually cliche as it is...both her, Madeline, and my relationship has a foundation formed upon living in the ~zouse~ our sophomore year. Maddie has ultimately taken upon the roll of the logistics and the mother figure behind all of our our ideas. … She is always concerned about budget, and how something is going to get accomplished, and ultimately if we are actually humanly capable of accomplishing whatever crazy, out their idea that we have all dreamt up.
Third, Courtney Smith…my literal saving grace and whole entire emotional support system. Court had the pleasure (or at least what I say) to spend the summer in Fayetteville with me doing nothing more than recruitment things...but let me tell you there isn't one other person I would want to do it with. Courtney shows passion towards all things she takes on & isn't one to settle until it's exactly what she wants. She's truly shown me how reliable a human can be...there isn't a moment where I would question calling Court, asking her to help me out with something. Court leads in an approachable yet bold kind of way and for that she has taught me so much!
Fourth, Delanie Mack...the genius behind the cluster of our craziness. Delanie is going to do big things in this world… and I have no doubt about that. She's intelligent, driven and a self motivated gal. Del is always one step ahead of me and is one of those people who is always calm...I am not kidding always calm! Most who know me, know that remaining calm isn't one of my specialties (working on that) but I kid you not just from having a conversation with Delanie about something that seems to be stressing me out, I instantly feel relieved and reassured that we are going to make it all happen.
Last, but definitely not least, Emily Fuss...the spunky one of the gang and let's not forgot the beauty! I think we can all agree on the fact that we fight over who has to stand next to her for squad pictures.... Emily has a way with words and makes my perfectionist traits look like nothing. She's authentic, bold and stands true in everything she believes in. She's taught me to always communicate how you feel and to never be afraid of what others will think.
So here’s to five women who are so empowered that they empower me...
