Standing in front of the big white ZTA house in the dead of summer with hundreds of girls surrounding me, I was absolutely terrified. I was the first girl in my huge Italian family to ever experience anything even close to Greek Life. Did I mention Leah Blefko (who would go on to be Miss Arkansas) picked me up at the door on my first day? So intimidating was putting it lightly. I've always been one who wanted to make a good first impression but I remember thinking, "How the heck am I supposed to stand out among 1,400 other girls?" My weeklong experience of Recruitment left me craving and pining away to be in one house...and one house only. Zeta Tau Alpha. But at the time if you had come up to me and said "You thought Recruitment was intimidating as a freshman? Just wait three years from now when you're the Recruitment Chair!" I probably would have never believed it.
Now here I am. Entering my senior year as Recruitment Chair for ZTA at the University of Arkansas! And what an experience it has been. When people ask me why I decided to be Recruitment Chair (trust me a lot of people think I'm crazy) I just look at them and think to myself that I get to be a part of molding the next four years of 1,600 freshman girl's lives in the absolute best way possible. At the end of the day to me, yes, it is about finding those girls that shine their truest colors at ZTA. But it is also about promoting Greek Life as a whole and proving to these 1,600 girls that Going Greek is one of the best decisions you will make in your college years. It will lead to some of the best laughs, best memories, best experiences, best dance partners on a Saturday night and best people to stand by you in the not so fun moments of life.
All of the tasks that come along with being Recruitment Chair would never be possible without the amazing Recruitment Team I have! They have been there with me every step of the way & I know we are all counting down the days until August 13:
When I entered Recruitment I was skeptical, of course, but I have learned that doing something slightly uncomfortable or different has led to be one of the best decisions I have made in life thus far and brought more personal growth throughout college than I could have anticipated.
During the third round of Recruitment I talked to the girl that would eventually become my big and she made me feel so comfortable, natural and confident, not to mention she is basically my other half today. This is when I knew where I wanted to end up. I know that anyone going through Recruitment will find that same feeling I found at one of the eleven fabulous chapters the University of Arkansas has to offer. On behalf of my team and the entire Greek Life community, we are so thrilled you have decided to Go Greek and take the plunge into Recruitment! If you haven't yet, there's still time to sign up before July 15.
