It’s Sunday night. The Zeta house is quiet, as everyone is preparing for a grueling week of exams. I lay in my bed typing away on my laptop trying to get a few notes in before I call it a night. Suddenly, one of my roommates, Taran laughs at something that she is watching, a sound I have heard many times since this is a daily occurrence. As usual I look up to see what is so funny, but instead of looking back down immediately, I look around the room. Looking around at this dysfunctional but totally unique room. I feel like breaking down, at the thought of only having a few months left here. When am I ever going to do this again? One of my other roommates, Grace earlier this day had said that in college, students always talk about how poor they are when in fact, they are actually rich. We are so rich you guys. I get to have a sleepover with four of my best friends every night. I get to come home and hear every crazy part of their days, from cockroaches in lab to running into someone at the library. I am telling you, this is such a blessing. Each person in my room brings something so special to my life.
Taran, my perfect listener. You could vent to her about anything in this entire world and she will sit there and listen intently and then respond so fast with the best advice you've ever heard. Her soul is so kind, she would do anything for any one of her friends. She is passionate about so many things and is always easy-going, except for when it comes to ice cream (she likes Braums guys).
Gretchen, the crazy one. Now Gretch is someone I truly admire. Honestly who else could live her life, she has more spirit than anyone I know. What I love about her is that she is full of energy and is so fun, but every once in a while she will have these moments where you see her 100% true self and let me tell you she is amazing. Gretchen has the biggest heart and is always there to make me laugh.
Grace, my go to gal. If you don’t know this human, you really need to because she is the best. Grace is one of the strongest girls I know and is someone I can always count on. I absolutely adore her even though she can be sassy sometimes. She always knows what to say to make me feel better and has one of the most generous and caring souls I know. Grace is also someone I can have so much fun with no matter what situation we are in, I mean we could be in the study room at 2 am talking about finance and it would be fun.
Nikki, the funny one. Literally laughing with Nikki is one of my favorite things in this world. She can make any situation positive and I love her for that. She will tell you exactly what she is thinking straight up and won’t hold back. She gives me the truth and is always there for me. Nikki is selfless and understanding and even though she constantly asks me to snuggle (I mean we live two feet away from each other) she is someone I aspire to be every day.
If you talk to just one of these girls for five minutes, you will understand why I love them so much. Each one of them has impacted my life in a unique way and I am forever thankful for their friendships. These past few months in our five girl room, otherwise known as Sun Deck, have been full of unforgettable memories. From ice cream runs, to getting ready for game days, late night talks, and everything else in between these girls have given me an amazing sophomore year.
When we are all in here talking and I stop to look around and see Grace belting out laughing, Taran with the biggest smile, Nikki shaking her head, and Gretchen rolling her eyes, I know that I have something truly special. Babe Cave I love you all and I wouldn't trade this room for the world. Thanks for being there through the best and worst and for always making me excited to call Zeta my home.
